Benefits of technology

[0008]The primary object of the invention is to provide a furniture protector device that inhibits pets such as dogs or cats from sitting on a piece of furniture such as a chair or a sofa.
[0010]Another object of the invention is to provide a furniture protector device that can be easily stored.
[0011]Another object of the invention is to provide a furniture protector device whose deterrent means are strong enough, tall enough and closely enough spaced that any sized cat or dog would be deterred from sitting on the piece of furniture that employs the present invention.

Problems solved by technology

A common problem for pet owners is that their pets, such as a dog or a cat, climb onto a piece of furniture such as a chair or a sofa and soil the horizontal surface of the chair or sofa with pet hair or other pet related debris.
Such pet hair or debris is unsightly and may cause an allergic reaction to those who sit on the affected surfaces.
Although the pet may not be lying directly on the furniture surface, the pet is not being trained to stay off of the surface because the configuration does not provide enough deterrent.
Multiple mats are somewhat difficult to store.
The angle channels in the Rogers patent also do not seem to provide a strong deterrent for a larger dog, and a cat could easily lie in the space between the angles.
Additionally, the hinged construction of the device allows the entire assembly to flex and potentially cause a number of the struts to flatten thereby giving a larger pet a place to sit or lie.

Embodiment Construction

[0021]Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.

[0022]Referring now to FIG. 1 we see a plan view of the invention 100 in its closed or stored position. The protective device 100 is comprised of a plurality of rigid elongate members arranged in a side by side manner and placed in upper and a lower layers 2A, 2B, that when pinned together by equally spaced posts 4, create a standard expandable lattice configuration. Raised handles 6, 8 provide gripping points allow the user to easily expand and contract the lattice assembly.

Abstract

Furniture protector device comprising: a plurality of side by side rigid elongate members forming an upper layer of rigid members and and a lower layer of rigid members. The layers are attached to each other by standard equally space pins to form a standard expandable lattice structure. A plurality of spike members are perpendicularly attached to the rigid members of the upper layer. A pair of handle members are each attached to rigid members located on the right and left side of the upper layer. The lattice structure can be expanded to cover the entire horizontal surface of a standard sofa or contracted for compact storage.

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS[0001]Not ApplicableSTATEMENT REGARDING FEDERALLY SPONSORS RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT[0002]Not ApplicableDESCRIPTION OF ATTACHED THE APPENDIX[0003]Not ApplicableBACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0004]This invention relates generally to the field of furniture protector accessories and more specifically to a portable furniture protector device for use in deterring pets from sitting on furniture.[0005]A common problem for pet owners is that their pets, such as a dog or a cat, climb onto a piece of furniture such as a chair or a sofa and soil the horizontal surface of the chair or sofa with pet hair or other pet related debris. Such pet hair or debris is unsightly and may cause an allergic reaction to those who sit on the affected surfaces. To eliminate this problem, it is necessary to put some sort of covering on the chair or sofa seat that will discourage the pet from resting there.[0006]A number of inventors have addressed this problem.
