Benefits of technology

[0012]The illustrative embodiments provide a computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for using weighted condition primitives to facilitate the description of a business policy for providing a web service to a user. When a set of facts associated with a user requesting a web service is obtained, an evaluation of each weighted condition primitive in a business policy is performed using the set of facts. But her current credit card membership only allows her to purchase up to $5,000 in merchandise.
As a result, her purchases over her credit limit will be declined, which may affect her wedding preparation plans.
The inconvenience may impact Customer B's wedding arrangements, and the credit card company may lose Customer B as a customer because of customer's B perception of having received bad service.
However, in the example above, if the credit card company deploys an SOA to implement their online purchase system and only uses the trad

Embodiment Construction

[0020]With reference now to the figures and in particular with reference to FIGS. 1-2, exemplary diagrams of data processing environments are provided in which illustrative embodiments may be implemented. It should be appreciated that FIGS. 1-2 are only exemplary and are not intended to assert or imply any limitation with regard to the environments in which different embodiments may be implemented. Many modifications to the depicted environments may be made.

[0021]FIG. 1 depicts a pictorial representation of a network of data processing systems in which illustrative embodiments may be implemented. Network data processing system 100 is a network of computers in which the illustrative embodiments may be implemented. Network data processing system 100 contains network 102, which is the medium used to provide communications links between various devices and computers connected together within network data processing system 100. Network 102 may include connections, such as wire, wireless ...

Abstract

A method, system, and computer program product for using weighted condition primitives to facilitate the description of a business policy for providing a web service to a user. When a set of facts associated with a user requesting a web service is obtained, an evaluation of each weighted condition primitive in a business policy is performed using the set of facts. A weight value assigned to a result of the evaluation of each weighted condition primitive is identified, and a total weight value of the identified weight values is calculated. The total weight value is then compared against a pre-defined business weight threshold condition. If the total weight value satisfies the pre-defined business weight threshold condition, the web service is provided to the user. If the total weight value does not satisfy the pre-defined business weight threshold condition, the request by the user for the web service is denied.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION[0001]1. Field of the Invention[0002]The present invention relates generally to an improved data processing system, and in particular, to a computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer program product for using weighted condition primitives to facilitate the description of a business policy.[0003]2. Description of the Related Art[0004]A Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is a collection of services that communicate with one another over a network in order to carry out business processes. Communication in an SOA can involve the simple passing of data or it can involve two or more services that coordinate some activity. Such services are loosely coupled (meaning that one application does not need to know the implementation details of another application in order to communicate with the other application), have well-defined platform independent interfaces, and are reusable. In general, a service-oriented approach enables one or more busi...
