Processor-controlled carving and multi-purpose shaping device

One embodiment of the present invention is a compact, low-cost, lightweight, versatile and easy-to-operate, processor-controlled carving and multi-purpose shaping device (“PCCMPS machine”). The PCCMPS machine that represents one embodiment of the present invention is configured, in part, similarly to common, commercially available portable wood planers and ubiquitous laser and ink-jet computer printers, with work pieces fed into the PCCMPS machine in a horizontal direction. The PCCMPS machine includes a motor-powered cutting head that can power detachable bits to drill, cut, shape, and rout a work piece under processor and computer control. The cutting head may be translated, under processor control, back and forth across the surface of the work piece in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the work piece is fed into the PCCMPS machine and moved by motor-powered rollers. The cutting head may be translated up and down, in a vertical direction, approximately perpendicular to the surface of the work piece. The processor can thus position a cutting bit at any point on a surface of, near the surface of, or within the work piece, via a combination of lateral and vertical translations of the cutting head and horizontal translation of the work piece, and can control the speed at which the bit rotates as the computer moves the rotating bit from one position to another position relative to the surface of the work piece in order to carve and shape elaborate, three-dimensional designs onto the work piece.

Removeable attachment for a powered tool

A removeable attachment for a powered tool includes a frame with a continuous loop blade positioned in a coplanar relationship with the frame along a system of blade guides so that a cutting surface of the blade faces a desired cutting area. The relative positions between the frame arms, the frame handle, and the blade provides a degree of stability and control that allows the operator to precisely and accurately control the cutting surface of the blade along curves, notches, and protrusions, including those involved in coping and sanding. In addition, this arrangement results in a compact design that positions the cutting surface in close proximity to the handle.

Material, log and lumber identification through video recognition

Systems and methods provide for identifying, tracking, and coordinating the processing of natural materials in a process. The unit material is scanned to determine natural physical characteristics. At least portions of these scanned characteristics are quantified and classified, then recorded as the unique identifier for the unit. The material may then be stored, shipped, or transferred to a further process, where the material is once again scanned for natural characteristics, compared to a library of previously recorded units and their characteristics, then processed, inventoried, tracked, or invoiced based on previous data associated with this specific unit, thereby eliminating the need for bar coding or other physical marking methods.

Fire log

A fire log includes a single fire log cut in a specific design to enable easy ignition and sustenance of a self-contained campfire. The single log is designed to stand vertically and may range from twenty-four to seventy-two inches in height depending on diameter. In most instances, four vertical, diametrical cuts are made in the log forming eight pie-slice segments. The cuts extend from the top surface of the log downward toward the base of the log. The vertical cuts stop short of the entire length of the log leaving approximately 25% of the length uncut. The uncut portion forms the base of the log. One of the segments is cut horizontally at its lower end adjacent the top of the base so that the segment can be removed from the log for air flow control.
