Abstract

The invention provides a method and a device for determining a session encoding key during broadcast and multicast service by using a safety real-time transmission protocol (SRTP). The method and the device comprise the step of receiving serial number during a session. The serial number and a loop counter with a predetermined value are used for calculating packet indices. Subsequently, a primary key and the packet indices are used for determining the session key.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly to determining session encryption keys for secure real-time transmissions. Background technique [0002] Broadcast or multicast services relate to communication systems for transmitting information from a sender to multiple receivers or users. Examples of broadcast or point-to-multipoint communication systems include dispatch systems such as those used by the police, truck companies, and taxi companies, where a central dispatcher broadcasts a signal to one or more vehicles. The broadcast signal can be directed to a specific vehicle or to all vehicles simultaneously. [0003] As mobile radio networks, such as cellular telephone networks, have become commonplace, users have come to desire to receive multimedia broadcasts, such as video and teleconferencing, over wireless communication links using the Internet Protocol (IP). For example, users wish to be able to re...
