Embodiment Construction
[0013] see first figure 1 , which shows in block diagram form an ultrasonic diagnostic imaging system constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention. The ultrasound probe 10 transmits and receives ultrasound waves from piezoelectric elements of an array of transducer elements 12 . One-dimensional (1-D) element arrays can be used for imaging planar regions of the body and two-dimensional (2-D) element arrays can be used for imaging volumetric regions of the body to steer and focus ultrasound waves over the imaging region bundle. The transmit beamformer excites the array elements to transmit ultrasonic waves into the subject. Signals generated in response to the reception of ultrasound waves are coupled to a receive beamformer 14 . The beamformer delays and combines the signals from the individual transducer elements to form coherently beamformed echo signals. When the probe contains a 2-D array for 3D imaging, it may also contain a microbeamformer th...
