Embodiment Construction

[0014] While the invention is hereinafter described in conjunction with preferred embodiments, it will be understood that it is not intended to limit the invention to these embodiments.

[0015] An exemplary embodiment of a digital printing press embodying the present invention

[0016] A digital printing machine embodying the invention is shown in FIG. 1 . The digital printing machine 1 comprises a printing table 2 for supporting a printing medium 3 during the digital printing process. The printing table is generally flat and can support flexible sheet media (such as paper, transparent foil, adhesive PVC sheet, etc.) whose thickness is as low as tens of microns, and rigid substrates whose thickness is as high as several centimeters (such as rigid board, PVC, cardboard, etc.). A printhead shuttle 4 comprising one or more printheads is designed to reciprocate back and forth on the printing table in a fast scan direction FS and for repositioning on the printing table in a slo...

Abstract

A print head carriage is disclosed for holding a print head in a printing system. The carriage includes a print head carriage framework (44) having a plurality of print head positioning references (49, 61) for defining a position of the print head (64) onto the print head carriage framework (44), and a cooling channel (70) in thermal contact with the print head carriage framework (44) for controlling the temperature of the print head carriage framework (44) such that the positional stability of the plurality of print head positioning references (49, 61) onto the print head carriage framework (44) is preserved.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a solution for maintaining the dimensional stability of the printhead carrier frame. More particularly, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods for controlling the temperature of a printhead carrier frame. Background technique [0002] In industrial printing applications, the print output is an important characteristic of a printing unit. One of the parameters that determine the printed output in a digital printer configured with a reciprocating printhead, such as a wide format inkjet printer, is the size of the printhead shuttle. The wider the printhead shuttle, the wider the area on the print medium that can be printed by a single print pass or operation of the printhead shuttle on the print medium. Several problems arise when using larger printhead shuttles in digital printing press configurations. As the print head shuttles get larger, they become heavier, complicating fast and accurate movement of the shu...
