Embodiment Construction

[0009] The invention features an insulated cartridge suitable for use as a storage container for pharmaceutical compositions, including therapeutic compounds susceptible to heat. The insulated cartridge can be used, for example, as an integral part of an MDI, a topical sprayer cartridge, or a nasal aqueous liquid inhaler. The insulated canister includes a double wall structure having an outer vessel surrounding an inner vessel having a different taper than the outer vessel to form an insulating gap between the outer vessel and the inner vessel. The inner container defines a lumen 32 that holds a pharmaceutical composition (defined hereinafter) administered by the delivery system. An insulating material as defined below is provided in the insulating gap. Furthermore, the inner surface of the inner container can optionally be covered with a coated base material.

Abstract

An insulated cartridge for use in a metered dose system, such as a metered dose inhaler or a topical sprayer, for a pressurized or non-pressurized system, characterized by comprising an inner container surrounded by an outer container, and the inner container and the outer container The space between the walls defines a gap. The gap can be filled with vacuum, air or a material with low thermal conductivity.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an insulated canister for a metered dose delivery system such as an inhaler. In particular, the invention features a canister having a double wall. Background technique [0002] Therapeutic compounds for the treatment of respiratory, nasal and dermatological disorders are often formulated as aerosol formulations for delivery via oral, nasal or topical routes of administration / administration. The therapeutic compound is provided as a suspension or solution, i.e. the therapeutic compound is present as fine solid particles suspended or dissolved in a vehicle, e.g. under pressure or without pressure (e.g. nasal aqueous inhaler) in the container. For pressurized systems, such systems may be liquefied gases known as propellants. The container, when sealed, is able to withstand the pressure required to keep the gas liquefied. At each use, the suspension or solution is administered through a metered valve, which releases a ...
