Embodiment Construction

[0054] see figure 1 , shows a system for detecting lane change violations. Road 10 is marked with double white lines 12 to indicate that vehicles traveling in the direction of arrow A cannot change lanes.

[0055] The system comprises a first camera system for monitoring a first location L1 of the road 10 and a second camera system 16 separate from said first system 14 for monitoring a location L2 of the road 10 . As mentioned above, the road between locations L1 and L2 is marked with a double white line 12 to show that vehicles are not permitted to change lanes for the length of the road between locations L1 and L2. In addition to marking with double white lines, road signs can also use other methods, such as setting sign boards and so on.

[0056] Each camera system 14 and 16 includes cameras for monitoring one of the plurality of lanes 1 and 2 of the road 10 . Thus, in such figure 1 In the illustrated environment, the camera system 14 includes a first camera 14a and a s...

Abstract

A vehicle detection method and system for detecting traffic violations is disclosed which has two camera systems (14 and 16) spaced apart from one another. Each system includes multiple cameras (14a, 14b and 16a, 16b) for monitoring the lanes of the roadway. Vehicles are detected by the camera systems (14, 16) and the lanes in which the vehicles are travelling and / or the order of the vehicles is determined by image analysis to identify the vehicles so that illegal lane changes or illegal overtaking can be determined.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a system and method for detecting road traffic violations. Background technique [0002] A major cause of traffic accidents is the behavior of sudden lane changes. To improve traffic safety, traffic planners and regulators have identified areas that need attention, for example, near traffic junctions, bridge crossings or tunnel crossings, and freeway entry and exit areas. The act of changing lanes in these areas is usually regulated by line markings on the road, such as double white lines, to indicate to drivers that lane changing is illegal in these regulated areas. [0003] Unlike the supervision of other traffic violations (such as speeding and red light violations, which mainly rely on automated supervision methods), the supervision of illegal lane-changing behaviors has always relied on patrol officers such as police officers to detect them visually. [0004] Although technology exists to detect red light violations and ...
