Embodiment Construction

[0020] In order to make the objects, features, and advantages of the present invention more comprehensible, preferred embodiments are specifically cited below and described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0021] The image data IMG includes a plurality of pixels. Each pixel corresponds to a pixel value, wherein the pixel is configured as a 2-dimensional array. The image data IMG is divided into a plurality of blocks. Each block includes 16 pixel values corresponding to pixels in the image data IMG. The pixel values in the block are converted and quantized by a predetermined transformation method (such as DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) or DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform), and then coefficients corresponding to the pixel values in the block are respectively obtained. For example, the pixel values in block U and block V respectively correspond to pixels in two adjacent blocks in the image data IMG. See figure 1 , u 1 -u 16 are the coefficient...

Abstract

An encoding method for encoding image data comprising a plurality of pixels is disclosed. Each pixel corresponds to a pixel value. First coefficients in different frequencies which are transformed and quantized from a first set of pixel values are provided. Second coefficients in different frequencies which are transformed and quantized from a second set of pixel values are provided. A bitstream by encoding the first coefficients with interleaving the second coefficients according to a predetermined order is generated. The predetermined order to encode the first coefficients with interleaving the second coefficients is from the first coefficients and the second coefficients in the lowest frequency to the first coefficients and the second coefficients in the highest frequency.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to image compression, in particular to an image data encoding method. Background technique [0002] The rapid growth of digital video applications, including small-scale publishing, multimedia, video conferencing, and high-definition television (HDTV), has increased the need for efficient and standardized video compression techniques. Without image compression, the bandwidth consumed by image transmission may be unsupportable for many applications. Therefore, methods of compressing images have been the subject of many research publications. Image compression methods convert an image consisting of a 2D array of pixels into a sequence of bits, which are transmitted over a transmission line. Each pixel represents the intensity of the image at a particular location. The transmission connection can be a common telephone line. [0003] Consider an image comprising a grayscale display of a photograph with a resolution of 1000 x 1000 ...
