Embodiment 1
[0283] Embodiment 1 - a kind of preferred formula
[0284] It is called Shinkolite produced by Mitsubishi Rayon, Japan. TM A 300 mm x 300 mm continuous slot molded acrylic specimen. They are held in place in a jig to prevent twisting, and are set to pour at a 30-degree angle, allowing any air bubbles to rise. Oscillation can be applied to hasten the release of any air.
[0285] The mixture of resin and catalyst is as follows:
[0286]
[0287] During the curing process in the oven, the sample pour can be held vertically in the fixture. Alternatively the access hole (the one used for the charge) can be plugged and the sample laid flat for curing in the oven.
[0288] In general, samples should be allowed to sit for at least 8 hours before processing. To speed up the process, post-curing can be employed.
[0289] Post-curing can be the preparation of the catalyst in the resin for a certain time before infusion, so that the gel time is appropriate when it is introduced i...
Embodiment 2
[0290] Example 2 - Cleaning and preparation of the cavity side of the sheet
[0291] This step may be necessary due to possible contamination from the various adhesives that some manufacturers may apply for use with protective plastic overwraps. In simple terms, remove the adhesive with a suitable cleaner. We have used methylated spirits (both denatured and household alcohol), but found isopropyl alcohol to be most preferred. The preferred cleaning agent will depend on the different packaging materials used by different manufacturers.
[0292] Alternatively, we use acrylic or P.E.T.G. The protective coating will remain on the outside of the laminate sheets (ie, the side of the sheet that is in contact with the resin will not have the protective coating).
Embodiment 3
[0293] Example 3 - Perfusion Conditions
[0294] One preferred resin for laminate manufacture is our NC007 resin. This is a dissolved styrene unsaturated polyester resin.
[0295] Table B below shows our investigation of the infusion conditions for P.E.T.G. and acrylic sheets infused with this resin.
[0296]
[0297] Dimensions: 300mm x 300mm x 2mm thick
[0298] Test sample sheet temperature, mixing and time
[0299] (All samples were cleaned with methylated alcohol)
[0300] Figure 9a An end view of the perfusion device is shown. The outer edge seal / dam rubber is made from a 25 mm wide closed cell pvc foam seal tape 91 with a single adhesive face. After a 300 mm x 300 mm sample sheet (acrylic or PETG) 92 was prepared and cleaned, the sealing tape was unrolled, cut to length, and the protective tape was removed from one side to expose the adhesive . The tape 91 is then placed around the inner and outer edges of the sheet 92, adhesive side down. The junctions of ...
