Problems solved by technology

Although these assemblies enable some form of load sharing by delaying the engagement of the inner 18 and outer 24 races of the clutch 16, the assemblies require costly modifications to the support structure 39
Also, the assembly provides no means for sensing or releasing the load or tension on the clutch 16

Embodiment Construction

[0023] Referring now to the drawings, in which similar reference numerals are used to identify the same parts in the various views, image 3 An embodiment of the torque arm assembly 40 according to the present invention is shown. The component 40 is configured to inhibit the rotation of the outer ring of the non-return clutch, such as the outer ring 24 of the clutch 16 (see figure 2 ), and absorb the load applied to the clutch 16 when the clutch 16 prevents the reverse rotation of the motor drive shaft. The assembly 40 includes a head element 42, an arm element 44 and a pillar 46. The assembly 46 may also include a damper 48.

[0024] The head element 42 is provided to join the outer ring 24 of the clutch 16 and the rest of the assembly 40. The element 42 includes first and second clutch attachment plates 50, 52 and an arm attachment plate 54. Although the plates 50, 52, 54 are shown as separate elements in the diagram, it should be understood that the plates 50, 52, 54 can be...

Abstract

Various torque arm assemblies for a backstopping clutch (16) are provided that enable load sharing among multiple torque arm assemblies, controlled release of load on the torque arm assembly and / or load sensing. The torque arm assembly includes a head member (42) that is connected to an outer race of a backstopping clutch and defines a pair of attachment points (72, 74). One end of an arm member (44) is pivotally connected to one attachment point of the head member while the other end of the arm member is connected to a stationary structure. A strut (46) extends between the other attachment point of the head member and the arm member. Upon backstopping action in one embodiment, the head member rotates slightly against the force of the strut allowing other torque arm assemblies to receive a portion of the system load. The position of the strut may be adjustable to allow controlled release of the load tension.

Description

Technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a torque arm assembly for a non-return clutch, and more specifically to the ability to distribute load among multiple non-return components in a larger system and / or allow the controlled release of the load on the non-return member or Tensioned torque arm assembly. Background technique [0002] In many motor-driven systems, it is desirable to prevent or limit the movement of system components in one direction. For example, and refer to figure 1 , Mining operations usually use inclined conveying mechanism 10 to convey material 12 to a ground location or other exit. It is desirable to prevent or limit the reverse movement of the transmission mechanism 10 in the event of power loss or failure of transmission system components (such as the motor 14, gearbox or coupling), so as to prevent the material 12 from moving back on the transmission mechanism 10 and cause system failure. Damage and significant injury to personnel operat...
