Abstract

Disclosed is a torque converter including an impeller, a turbine and a stator. The impeller rotates on an axis when a torque is inputted thereto. The turbine is rotatably arranged on the same axis as that of the impeller and at a position to confront the impeller. The stator is interposed between the impeller and the turbine, and has stator blades for adjusting the flow of a fluid existing inbetween from the turbine to the impeller. The impeller, the turbine and the stator form a torus, and the torque is transmitted between the impeller and the turbine by the fluid existing in the torus. The torus inside / outside diameter ratio or the ratio of the inside diameter to the outside diameter of the torus is set within a range of 0.55 to 0.68. The exit angle or the inclination angle of the portion of the stator blades on the impeller side to the axes of the impeller and the turbine is set within a range of 30 to 40 degrees.
