The steps of the image output method are as follows: an inquiry command for an examination image of a patient is received, and retrieving is carried out with basic information about the patient in the inquiry command as the matching condition so as to obtain all historical examination index information of the patient and historical examination images relevant to the historical examination index information; all the obtained historical examination index information is output to a first display area of a display device; based on the selection of a user for the historical examination index information, the historical examination images relevant to the selected historical examination index information are output to a second display area of the display device. In the using process of the PACS system, a doctor does not need to manually search the historical examination images of the patient one by one; in addition, the doctor can browse abstracts and detailed information about each examination of the patient on one display device at the same time.
