Embodiment Construction

[0019] Here will refer to Figure 1A-6 Embodiments of the invention are discussed. However, those skilled in the art will appreciate that the detailed description given herein with reference to the accompanying figures is for explanatory purposes and that the invention extends beyond these limited embodiments.

[0020] First refer to Figure 1A , a beam or design domain 100 is represented by a plurality of finite elements 102 fixed at both ends 104a-b. The beam under load is at Figure 1B shown in . The load condition is determined from between the two fixed ends 104a-b at an initial velocity (v o ) 112 represents a cylinder 110 contacting the beam (for ease of viewing, the illustration is a half-opened cylinder plate). Figure 3 shows the Figure 1B The optimal design 120 of the beam 100 for the loading condition of . As a result of the topology optimization, some cells 102 have been cleared (shown as empty spaces 122).

Abstract

The invention relates to a method and system for obtaining optimum engineering product design in topology optimization. Improved topology optimization for engineering product design is disclosed. An engineering product including a design domain to be optimized is defined. Design domain can be a portion of or the entire engineering product. Design objective and optional constraint are also defined such that optimization goal can be achieved. Additionally, initial configuration of the design domain is represented by a finite element analysis (FEA) mesh. Each element or element group is associated with a design variable. A set of discrete material models is created from the baseline material used for the design domain. The set of discrete material models is configured to cover entire range of the design variable and each discrete material model represents a non-overlapping portion. Each element representing the design domain is associated with an appropriate discrete material model according to the design variable. Structure response of entire engineering product is obtained via FEA to evaluate design objective and update design variable.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to computer-aided engineering design optimization, and more particularly, to a method and system for providing efficient and effective topology optimization in engineering product design. Background technique [0002] Today, computer-aided engineering (CAE) has been used to assist engineers in various tasks, such as analysis, simulation, design, manufacturing, etc. In traditional engineering design programs, CAE analysis (e.g., finite element analysis (FEA), finite difference analysis, meshless analysis, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, noise-vibration-harsh (NVH) reduction modeling state analysis, etc.) have been used to evaluate the response (eg, pressure, displacement, etc.). Using the car design as an example, FEA is used to analyze a particular version or design of a car for its response due to certain loading conditions. Engineers then try to improve the car's design by modifying certain parameters and ...
