[0020] Methods and apparatus are described for facilitating block acknowledgment (ACK) (BA) of recipient state information. In one embodiment, the method includes utilizing an on-chip state memory to store a receive state for frame blocks received during a transmit opportunity (TXOP). Once stored, an Immediate Block ACK (BA) containing reception status information may be transmitted to the originator based on a BA Request (BAR) received during the TXOP. In one embodiment, the originator is required to issue a BAR during the TXOP that transmits a data frame block to the receiver. In one embodiment, the receiver is free to discard the receive status information to free up space within the on-chip system memory by requiring the originator to maintain receive status information for blocks of data frames transmitted during the TXOP.
