Embodiment Construction

[0025] In the illustrated embodiment, patient P is filled with a sufficient volume of dialysate, such as 2000 milliliters (ml).

[0026] The patient P is connected to a so-called cycler 10 , ie a device for regularly dispensing and withdrawing dialysate. A measuring bag 12 with a known volume is suspended on the cycler 10 . The placement of the measuring bag is below (lower than) the patient. In the example shown, the volume of the measuring bag is 0 ml when the measurement is started. The measuring bag 12 is connected to a patient line 114 via a tube 14 . The flow resistance of the pipe system is known. In the illustrated embodiment, this flow resistance (in the absence of patient conduit 114 flow resistance) may be R system = 0.2 millibar (mbar) x min / ml.

[0027] During the measurements described in the following examples, the position of the patient P relative to the measurement bag 12 should be substantially unchanged.

[0028] Patient P's static pressure is determi...

Abstract

The invention relates to a device for peritoneal dialysis, having a unit for the periodic discharge and reuptake of dialysate, comprising a line having a catheter, wherein a measuring bag is present in which the dialysate can be received, wherein first means are provided for determining the static pressure in the line between the catheter and the measuring bag, and second means are provided for guiding the dialysate volume flow into the measuring bag for a certain period of time. According to the invention third means are provided for determining the volume of the dialysate guided into the measuring bag, and further fourth means are provided for calculating the catheter resistance substantially from the values determined by the first through the third means.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a peritoneal dialysis apparatus having means for periodically delivering and withdrawing dialysate comprising a tube with a catheter. Background technique [0002] Peritoneal dialysis is a variant of manual blood purification. In this case, the patient's well-supplied peritoneum is used here as the body's own filter membrane. Dialysate is injected into the peritoneal cavity through a catheter. According to the principle of osmosis, urine components are removed from the blood and enter the abdominal cavity. After several hours, the dialysate is drained from the peritoneal cavity with this urine component. [0003] In general, peritoneal dialysis can be performed in different ways. For continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD), patients themselves change the dialysate about 4 or 5 times a day. For automated peritoneal dialysis (APD), a device called a cycler performs automatic bag changes overnight so that patients ar...
