The invention describes a method and a system for managing a firmware extension mechanism. A firmware binary file is stored in an extension region of a storage device of a computer system. A basic input / output system (BIOS) of the computer system is modified so as to access to the firmware binary file stored in the extension region. In one embodiment, the computer system is suitable for an extensible firmware interface (EFI).
