The monitoring system includes that an inquiring device, which is arranged at a source end of the distributed antenna system and electrically connected with the source end; and response devices, which are arranged at antenna ends of the distributed antenna system and coupled to each antenna; and the response devices have identification information corresponding to an antenna branch associated with the response devices, wherein, the inquiring device is used for transmitting a monitoring signal to the response devices via the distributed antenna system, and the response devices receive the monitoring signal and then are activated and return a response signal to the inquiring device via the distributed system, wherein the response signal carries identification information and status information about the monitoring signal received by the response devices, and then the inquiring device receives the response signal and determines, according to the identification information and the status information about the monitoring signal received by the response devices, the status of the antenna branch corresponding to the identification information. By using the embodiment of the invention, the difficult problem in remotely detecting the working status of multi-antenna branches of a distributed antenna system can be solved, a detection for multi-antenna branches can be achieved in a quick, high efficiency and low cost way, and thus the users can remotely monitor the status of each antenna branch in the antenna system.
