Embodiment 1
[0148] Example 1 - In a first series of investigations, a peel test was performed wherein the preferred pressure sensitive adhesive - previously described Adhesion of S692N to different substrates. Four different substrates were evaluated: glass, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and polypropylene (PP). The adhesive was applied to each substrate at different adhesive coat weights. The peel strength of the adhesive to the substrate was then measured. Figure 9 Peel strength values (expressed in N / in) measured for each substrate containing different amounts of the preferred adhesive (expressed in gsm) are illustrated. As will be appreciated, as the coating weight increases, the peel strength increases.
Embodiment 2
[0149] Example 2 - Measurement of preferred binders in another series of investigations with respect to the aforementioned four substrates - glass, HDPE, PET and PP Cycle Viscosity of S692N. Figure 10 Cyclic tack values (expressed in N / in) measured for each substrate containing different amounts of adhesive (expressed in gsm) are illustrated. Cyclic tack increases as coating weight increases.
[0150] As previously discussed, the differences in peel strength and cycle tack between opposing surfaces of the pressure sensitive adhesive in the lid laminate can be used to achieve the desired lid behavior and resealing characteristics upon separation. Figure 9 and 10 It was shown that the coat weight or thickness of the pressure sensitive adhesive in the cover laminate can also affect the peel strength and cycle tack between the adhesive and layers located directly adjacent to the adhesive layer.
