Such modules may perform the functions of an input / output system or a control system by using sensor information to calculate actuation signals to be connected to actuators. Modules built using the teachings of the present invention have been used as input / output systems for control systems or as control systems for different processes. Thus, the temperature sensor can be electrically connected to the module and the heater actuation signal can be electrically connected to the heater system. Such modules have proven capable of reducing the number of components needed to build a control system while greatly reducing the complexity of interconnect wiring.
