Embodiment Construction

[0021] Various embodiments generally relate to document collaboration systems that allow multiple users to simultaneously create or edit a single document, or different versions of a single document. Some embodiments relate specifically to enhanced document collaboration systems designed to seamlessly refresh updates to different versions of a collaborative document without unduly disrupting the editing or viewing experience of coauthors, or causing strain on system resources ( For example, non-essential consumption of computing cycles, memory, network bandwidth, etc.). In one embodiment, an enhanced document collaboration system can utilize a novel set of structure-based conflict rules or logic to automatically resolve conflicts for merge operations of multiple edits of a collaborative document, thereby reducing or eliminating the manual effort required by authors to resolve conflicts. intervene. In one embodiment, the enhanced document collaboration system may utilize a nov...

Abstract

Described is a technique for managing collaborative documents. An application program comprises a document renderer component for rendering a first document instance of the collaborative documents; a document sharing component for receiving a document update list comprising a change record set of a second document instance of the collaborative documents, and modifying one or more structural properties of the first document instance based on the change records so as to form a merged document instance of the collaborative documents; and an undo manager component for managing a local undo stack of the first document instance and determining whether one or more undo records of the local undo stack is kept or not after formation of the merged document instance, on the basis of the one or more change records, wherein the local undo stack comprises an undo record set. Other embodiments are also descried and claimed.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to managing documents, and more particularly to techniques for managing collaborative documents. Background technique [0002] In a multi-user environment, it may be desirable for multiple users to be able to edit the same document at the same time. Often, when multiple users edit a document, there may be confusion as to how to add different edits to the document. For example, multiple versions of a document are sometimes edited, making it difficult to merge these edits into a single, complete document in a smooth and unobtrusive manner. Furthermore, the merging of multiple edits into a single document can affect other features of the application, such as undo and / or redo features. It is with respect to these and other considerations that the improvements of the present invention are needed. Contents of the invention [0003] The following provides a simplified summary in order to provide a basic understanding of some...
