[0027] figure 1 A hybrid electric vehicle 10 is illustrated, schematically represented as a parallel hybrid electric powertrain. The hybrid electric vehicle is provided with an engine 12 having a rotational output of a disconnect clutch 14 connected to a drive motor 16 . The output of the electric motor is connected to the input of torque converter 18 , and the output of the torque converter is connected to the input shaft of automatic transmission 20 . In conventional fashion, the automatic transmission is connected by a differential 24 to the drive wheels 22, 22'. In the illustration, the hybrid electric vehicle 10 is provided with a pair of non-driven wheels, however, a transfer case and a second differential may alternatively be utilized to actually drive all the wheels of the vehicle.
