The hybrid electric vehicle includes an engine 12 having a rotational output of a disconnect clutch 14 connected to a drive motor 16 . The output of the electric motor is connected to the input of the torque converter 18 , and the output of the torque converter is connected to the input shaft of the automatic transmission 20 . In a conventional manner, the automatic transmission is connected by a differential 24 to the drive wheels 22, 22'. In the schematic illustration, the hybrid electric vehicle 10 has a pair of non-driven wheels, however, alternatively, a transfer case and a second differential could be utilized to actually drive all of the vehicle's wheels.
