A switch mode power supply and method of using the same for powering. The switch mode power supply includes: a conversion unit for converting an alternating current (AC) voltage input to the switch mode power supply into at least one direct current (DC) voltage by using at least one transformer; and a voltage controller for the voltage The controller is for controlling, from the at least one DC voltage, a voltage level of an output voltage to be output to a system controller of an image forming apparatus, wherein the system controller controls an operation of the image forming apparatus. The voltage controller includes a switch unit for switching the voltage level of the output voltage from a first voltage level to a second voltage level when the image forming apparatus enters a power saving mode, wherein the second voltage level is level below the first voltage level.
