Abstract

A diagnostic system and method for field devices in a process plant is presented. The diagnostic device includes a processor operatively connected to the field device and having a schedule of prohibition periods stored in memory. If the occurrence of a diagnostic event is detected and performance of a diagnostic check does not coincide with the prohibition period, then the diagnostic check is performed at the field device.
