Embodiment

[0440] Buy PhMeSiH from Gelest 2 、Ph 2 SiH 2 and n-hexyl SiH 3 . Eicosene (macromonomer A) was purchased from Aldrich. Anhydrous solvents were purchased from Aldrich and further dried over 3A molecular sieves. The hydrosilylation reaction was carried out in a dry box under a nitrogen atmosphere. Between uses, the macromer was dried by dissolving the macromer in toluene and drying over 3A molecular sieves. The solid macromer was dried in a vacuum oven at 70°C for 12 hours.

[0441] Macromonomer D was prepared in a batch reactor: a 2 L stainless steel autoclave was charged with 0.3 mL of 1.0 M triisobutylaluminum (Aldrich) and 700 mL of isohexane. Propylene (400 mL) was added and the reactor was heated to 120°C. By adding rac-Me 2 Si(2-methyl,4-phenylindenyl) 2 Zirconium Dimethyl (Boulder Scientific, 10 mg) and [PhNHMe 2 ][B(C 6 f 5 ) 4 ] (Albemarle, 13.6 mg) was combined in 10 ml of toluene to prepare a catalyst solution. The catalyst solution was stirred at room...

Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of functionalizing polyolefins comprising contacting a metallocene catalyst with a hydrosilane and one or more vinyl terminated polyolefins. The invention also relates to the hydrosilane-functionalized polyolefins thus produced.

Description

[0001] priority claim [0002] This application claims the benefit and priority of USSN 13 / 072,305, filed March 25, 2011, and EP11167035.2, filed May 23, 2011. This application is a continuation of USSN 13 / 072,305 filed March 25,2011. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to the functionalization of vinyl terminated polyolefins by hydrosilylation reactions using metallocenes. Background technique [0004] Processes to produce polyolefins with terminal functional groups are typically multi-step processes that often generate unwanted by-products and waste reactants and energy. For an analysis of methods of forming end-functionalized polyolefins, see: (a) S.B.Amin and T.J.MarksAngew.Chem.Int.Ed.2008,47,2006-2025; 39-85; (c) R.G. Lopez, F.D'Agosto, C. Boisson Prog. Polym. Sci. 2007, 32, 419-454. A method with fewer steps or even a single step would be desirable. [0005] US Patent No. 4,110,377 discloses the alkylation of secondary aliphatic amines with alph...
