Embodiment Construction

[0022] figure 1 is a schematic diagram illustrating one exemplary network arrangement in which embodiments of the present invention may be implemented.

[0023] figure 1 A network arrangement 2 is shown capable of providing inter-domain services, eg communication services, across the network arrangement 2 . exist figure 1 In the exemplary embodiment shown, the inter-domain service is an inter-domain Ethernet service provided between the service access point 4 and the service access point 6, and the service access point 4 and the service access point 6 act as Ethernet service endpoints .

[0024] Operating System Support (OSS) 8 provides operations for managing Ethernet services in the network arrangement 2 . In particular, the Operating System Support (OSS) 8 is responsible for determining the routing of communication services (in the exemplary embodiment Ethernet services) across the network arrangement 2 . Operating system support (OSS) 8 is provided with an OSS reposit...

Abstract

The invention relates to a fault protection method and a fault protection device for an inter-domain link of a multi-domain network. The invention is particularly applicable to multi-domain networks providing end-to-end services such as Ethernet services. Embodiments of the present invention use link protection groups for inter-domain links. Link protection group information related to the link protection group is used to identify a replacement inter-domain link for a failed inter-domain link configured for inter-domain services. Once the replacement link has been identified, the routing of the inter-domain service may be reconfigured from the network element port of the failed inter-domain link to the network element port of the identified second inter-domain link.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a fault protection method and a fault protection device for inter-domain links in a multi-domain network. The invention is particularly applicable to multi-domain networks providing end-to-end inter-domain services such as Ethernet services. Background technique [0002] More and more network arrangements are formed from multiple interconnected network regions or domains. Different domains may use different technologies to transport service traffic and may use different technologies to provide failure protection for service traffic in a domain. [0003] In one example of such a situation, Carrier Ethernet networks are increasingly being used to provide switched transport infrastructure based on Provider Bridge and Provider Backbone Bridge technologies. [0004] Provider bridge networks offer loop prevention protocols such as Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol RSTP, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol MSTP, and Ethernet Ring Protection ...
