Embodiment Construction

[0029] In an exemplary application, a machine vision system can be used to align a workpiece to a piece of processing equipment, such as protective lenses for cell phones, tablets, and flat panel displays in screen printing. For example, the workpiece may be disposed on a moving stage or other movement-generating device that may move the workpiece relative to the screen printing apparatus. Calibration (eg, hand-eye calibration) can improve the machine vision system's ability to precisely position the workpiece relative to the screen printing device. In some applications, calibration may include determining the relationship between the image captured by the camera and the physical space of the field of view imaged by the camera. For example, calibrating a camera may include determining a mathematical transformation from the coordinate system of the camera's image to the physical coordinate space of the field of view (eg, the motion coordinate system of the motion generating dev...

Abstract

A machine vision system calibration method, system, and apparatus utilizing an inaccurate calibration target are described, including a computer program product for calibrating a machine vision system. The system includes: one or more cameras; a motion generating device; and a calibration module. The calibration module is configured to: acquire, from a first camera of the one or more cameras, a plurality of images of a calibration target comprising a calibration pattern providing a plurality of calibration features; and from the plurality of images, extract calibration features in the plurality of calibration features feature, wherein the physical locations of the plurality of calibration features are in calibration target length units associated with the calibration target; determining a ratio between the calibration target length units and the motion generating device length units associated with the motion generating means; and based on the ratio, A first calibration for a first camera is provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present technology relates generally to machine vision systems, and more specifically to calibrating a machine vision system. Background technique [0002] In a machine vision system, one or more cameras are used to perform vision system processing on objects or surfaces within the imaged field of view. These processes may include inspection, symbol decoding, alignment, and / or various other tasks. In some applications, machine vision systems can be used to inspect flat workpieces placed within or passing through an imaging field. The imaging field may be imaged by one or more vision system cameras. Images captured by the cameras may be processed by a machine vision system to determine information about features within the imaging field, such as the features' true positions, poses, and the like. In certain applications, cameras can be calibrated to allow machine vision systems to perform vision tasks with enhanced precision and reliability. [0...
