Embodiment Construction

[0033] figure 1 A gas sampling assembly 101 is shown, comprising a gas sampling device 100 and a gas collector 190 , such as an adsorption chamber 180 , fluidly connectable to the gas sampling device 100 .

[0034] The gas sampling device is configured with an inlet 111 for receiving gas, a pump 113 fluidly connected to inlet 111 for drawing a flow of gas through said inlet, a flow sensor 112 positioned to measure the flow of gas drawn by pump 113 through inlet 111 , and an outlet 121 for discharging the gas sucked by the pump.

[0035] Both pump 113 and flow sensor 112 are in fluid communication with each other and inlet 111 . The pump 113 and flow sensor 112 are located downstream relative to the inlet 111 such that gas is drawn through the pump and flow sensor via the inlet 111 . Flow sensor 112 may be located upstream relative to pump 113 such that flow sensor 112 as figure 1 Shown is between the inlet 111 and the pump 113, or the flow sensor 112 may be located downstre...

Abstract

The invention relates to a gas sampling device (100) for collecting gas samples from a patient or other gas sources such as industrial processes. The gas sampling device has a flow controller (114) and a flow sensor (112) for controlling a gasflow from the gas source created by a gas pump (113). The gas flow is pulled through an associated absorbent tube (180) located upstream relative to the flow sensor and pump.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to gas sampling devices, and more particularly to respiratory gas sampling devices for medical use. Background technique [0002] The current practice for obtaining breath samples is to have the patient breathe in a bag for a period of time. The collected breath is then pushed or pulled through the sorbent tube to collect volatile organic compounds from the breath sample. [0003] The pushing or pulling of the breath sample can be performed by a pump. However, currently available pumps are very bulky, and setting them up with tubing to fit the sorbent tube and counterlung is time consuming and not suitable for use at the patient's bedside. [0004] Furthermore, collecting a breath sample from a patient who cannot breathe in the bag (eg, because the patient is being mechanically ventilated) can be problematic. [0005] US 5826577 discloses a breath gas analysis module for providing sample gas to a gas detector comprising...
