Abstract

The set of resource aggregation levels available to form enhanced control channel messages may vary from subframe to subframe based on the level of puncturing in the transmitted subframe. An example method begins by determining (2710) members of a set of aggregation levels that may be used to aggregate non-overlapping subsets of resource elements for transmission of downlink control information. This determination is based on the puncturing level to be used for the transmission of the downlink control information. Downlink control information for a given subframe is mapped (2720) to one or more non-overlapping subsets of resource elements in at least one block of time-frequency resources according to the aggregation level selected from the determined set, and are then transmitted in the one or more non-overlapping subsets (2730). This method may be repeated for each of several subframes, where puncturing may vary from one subframe to another.
