The invention provides a management method and system based on an Internet group management protocol. The method and system are used for network access devices containing a port. According to the management method, when the management system receives a message which is used for the devices to leave a multicast group and comes from the port, a query message used for determining whether all the devices connected with the port leave the multicast group or not is fed back to the port; when a feedback message which is used for some devices to continue staying in the multicast group and fed back through the port is received, the corresponding relation between the port and the multicast group is reserved. According to the method and system, whether the corresponding relation between the port and the multicast group is deleted or not is confirmed by sending the query message, it can be guaranteed that when the port is connected with another network access device, users connected with the network access device can receive the query message and feed back the query message in time, thus, the management system will reserve the corresponding relation between the port and the corresponding multicast group, and the situation that multicast group members are deleted by mistake is effectively reduced.
