In the operation process of an elevator, if an individual traction machine driving module has a fault, the driving module switching controller can switch off the traction machine driving module with the fault through the return circuit switching device immediately, and the remaining traction machine driving modules supply power to the traction machine continuously. When the power of each traction machine driving module is configured to be the rated power of the elevator, the operation characteristic of the elevator before the fault happens and after the fault happens is not changed; when the power of each traction machine driving module is configured to be smaller than the rated power of the elevator, each traction machine driving module can be switched to a low power mode through a certain speed retardation curve when the fault happens, emergency stop and people trapping are avoided when the fault happens, and personnel injury of passengers is reduced.
