Embodiment Construction

[0027] Referring now to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout, there are shown and described various views and implementations of polarization control for a cellular telecommunications system, and other possible implementations are described. The drawings are not necessarily to scale and in some instances have been enlarged and / or simplified where appropriate for illustrative purposes only. Those of ordinary skill in the art will recognize many possible applications and variations based on the following examples of possible implementations.

[0028] now refer to figure 1 , showing a schematic perspective view of a base station transmitting within a site occupied by multiple buildings. A base station is shown by a tower 102 having an antenna 104 associated therewith. The antenna 104 is operable to transmit signals at various frequencies using various modulations. The base station is configured for the system according to ...

Abstract

The present invention discloses a base station for use in a wireless communication system comprising transceiver circuitry for transmitting and receiving using at least one mobile device over at least one communication channel. It includes polarization control logic for controlling the polarization of signals transmitted over the at least one communication channel. The polarization control logic adjusts the polarization of the signal transmitted on the at least one communication channel in response to at least one parameter received from the mobile device related to the quality of the signal received on the at least one communication channel .

Description

[0001] Cross References to Related Applications [0002] This application is a PCT application of US Patent No. 8,306,479, entitled "Polarization Control for Cellular Telecommunications Systems," filed July 6, 2012, the specification of which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. technical field [0003] The present invention relates generally to cellular telecommunications systems, and more particularly to methods and apparatus for controlling power levels transferred between base stations and mobile units. Background technique [0004] Power Control (PC) is an essential function of cellular telephone systems, such as CDMA systems and WCDMA systems, and their successors. Importantly, the power transmitted from the base station (BS) to the mobile unit (MU) can be tightly controlled so that it is high enough to ensure the desired communication and performance. This is also the case for the power transferred from MU to BS. If more power is transferred than req...
