Embodiment Construction

[0019] The following detailed description illustrates specific embodiments of the invention with reference to the accompanying drawings. Other embodiments having different structures and operations do not depart from the scope of the present invention. The same reference numerals may refer to the same elements or components in different drawings.

[0020] refer to figure 1 , one embodiment of a disclosed laser measurement system (generally designated 10 ) for coherent video measurement, which may include a signal beam projector 12 and a pilot beam projector 14 . Signal beam projector 12 may include at least one laser 16 . Laser 16 may be a continuous wave ("CW") laser (which emits a continuous laser beam at a single frequency) or a pulsed laser (which emits a pulsed laser beam at a single frequency). For example, laser 16 may comprise a diode pumped solid state laser. The laser 16 is capable of projecting a signal beam 18 (eg, a laser beam) as output. Signal beam 18 may i...

Abstract

The present invention relates to laser measurement systems and methods. A laser measurement system 10 may include a modulated measurement beam 26; a beam splitter 42 for splitting the measurement beam 26 into a local oscillator beam 44 and an emission beam 46; an optical assembly 50 for projecting the emission beam 46 to the measurement area 34 on the surface of the target structure 38 and for receiving the reflected beam 52 from the measurement area 34; the beam combiner 24 for combining the reflected beam 52 and the local oscillator beam 44 into a detection beam 68; a detector 48 , which is used to process the detection beam 68, the detector 48 includes a microlens 72 for projecting the detection beam 68, a photodetector 76, which is used to perform coherent detection of the detection beam 68, and a detector in communication with the photodetector 76 Electronics 84 for generating information data from the detection beam 68; and a range processor for calculating dimensional data about the measurement area 34 from the information data.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to measurement systems and, more particularly, to laser measurement systems and methods for coherent video measurement of measurement regions on the surface of target structures. Background technique [0002] Tight tolerances are required for the positioning and orientation of parts during manufacturing and assembly. During production, testing and evaluation, information about parts (e.g. about their surfaces) must be very precise in order to meet the increasing requirements for high-performance products (e.g. in the aerospace industry). The required tolerances challenge the capabilities of available measurement components and systems. [0003] Current coherent laser measurement systems use light waves (eg, laser beams) to perform a variety of positioning and measurement functions. Laser metrology is capable of performing high-resolution measurements and providing precise geometric / dimensional data about the pa...
