Abstract

An apparatus for testing a directional hearing instrument includes: a first microphone for coupling with an output of the hearing instrument, wherein the first microphone is configured to receive an audio output signal from the hearing instrument; a first speaker for transmission of a first signal having a first frequency component at a first frequency; a second speaker for transmission of a second signal having a second frequency component at a second frequency; and a processing unit configured to determine one or more hearing instrument parameters based on cross spectrum analysis of the first signal and the audio output signal.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to devices for testing hearing aids and methods relating thereto, and in particular to devices for testing the directivity of hearing aids. Background technique [0002] Many modern hearing aids include signal processing that allows the hearing aid to amplify sounds arriving from one direction (particularly from the front of the hearing aid user) while attenuating sounds from other directions. A simple test to verify this functionality would present a pure tone at each frequency from the front of the hearing aid and from other directions in two separate measurements. [0003] This type of test will work well if the hearing aid is run in a simple mode where the amplification is hardly dependent on the type of signal presented to its speaker. [0004] However, with the recent development of advanced hearing aids, signal processing functions within the hearing aid may include adaptation of the received signal. In particula...
