Method and apparatus for spectrum analysis and encoder

A disc serving as a spatial radiation modulator has dispersed radiation filters thereon. Each filter has a transmittance or reflectance modulation function of the form sin2(mθ+pπ / 4), where m is a positive integer and p has one of the four values 0, 1, 2, 3. A radiation beam including selected wavelength components is diffracted into an elongated image dispersed according to wavelength. Different wavelength components are focused onto different filters on the modulator and are encoded by corresponding filters. Since the modulation functions of the filters are orthogonal to one another, it is possible to extract the amplitude of each wavelength component after it has been encoded or modulated by corresponding filter from the total detected signal during one measurement.

Methods and apparatus for nucleic acid synthesis using oligo-templated polymerization

A method and apparatus for synthesizing nucleic acid (NA) by sequential addition of nucleotide triphosphates to a single stranded NA molecule (growing-chain) is described. The growing-chain is annealed to an oligonucleotide, wherein the 3′ end of the oligonucleotide is complementary to the 3′ end of the growing-chain and wherein the protruding 5′ end of the oligonucleotide has the correct sequence to serve as a template for the growing-chain to produce a NA product. The growing-chain is then brought into contact with a polymerase in the presence of one or more nucleotide triphosphates under conditions permitting the polymerase to catalyze addition of one or more nucleotide triphosphates to the 3′ end of the growing-chain using the annealed oligonucleotide as a template. After polymerization has occurred, the annealed growing-chain and oligonucleotide are denatured so that the steps can be repeated until the NA product of desired length is synthesized.

Two bit non-volatile electrically erasable and programmable semiconductor memory cell utilizing asymmetrical charge trapping

A non-volatile electrically erasable programmable read only memory (EEPROM) capable of storing two bit of information having a nonconducting charge trapping dielectric, such as silicon nitride, sandwiched between two silicon dioxide layers acting as electrical insulators is disclosed. A left and a right bit are stored in physically different areas of the charge trapping layer, near left and right regions of the memory cell, respectively. Two bits are able to be programmed and read due to a combination of relatively low gate voltages with reading in the reverse direction. This greatly reduces the potential across the trapped charge region. This permits much shorter programming times by amplifying the effect of the charge trapped in the localized trapping region associated with each of the bits. In addition, both bits of the memory cell can be individually erased by applying suitable erase voltages to the gate and either left or right regions so as to cause electrons to be removed from the corresponding charge trapping region of the nitride layer.

Method in depositing metal oxide materials

The present invention relates to a method for enhancing uniformity of metal oxide coatings formed by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) or ALD-type processes. Layers are formed using alternating pulses of metal halide and oxygen-containing precursors, preferably water, and purging when necessary. An introduction of modificator pulses following the pulses of the oxygen-containing precursor affects positively on layer uniformity, which commonly exhibits gradients, particularly in applications with closely arranged substrates. In particular, improvement in layer thickness uniformity is obtained. According to the invention, alcohols having one to three carbon atoms can be used as the modificator.

Sinusoidal Drive System And Method For Phototherapy

The LEDs in a phototherapy LED pad are controlled so that the intensity of the light varies in accordance with a sinusoidal function, thereby eliminating the harmonics that are generated when the LEDs are pulsed digitally, in accordance with a square-wave function. This is accomplished analogically by using a sinusoidal wave to control the gate of a MOSFET connected in series with the LEDs or by using a digital-to-analog converter to control the gate of the MOSFET with a stair step function representative of the values of a sinusoidal function at predetermined intervals. Alternatively, pulse-width modulation is used to control the gate of the MOSFET in such a way that the average current through the LEDs simulates a sinusoidal function. In additional to using a simple sine wave function, the LED current may also be controlled in accordance with “chords” containing multiple sine waves of different frequencies.
