The metapolarizer device transmits light of one polarity and rotates the other polarity so that it is closer to the transmitted polarity. A method and apparatus for synthesizing nucleic acid (NA) by sequential addition of nucleotide triphosphates to a single stranded NA molecule (growing-chain) is described. The growing-chain is annealed to an oligonucleotide, wherein the 3′ end of the oligonucleotide is complementary to the 3′ end of the growing-chain and wherein the protruding 5′ end of the oligonucleotide has the correct sequence to serve as a template for the growing-chain to produce a NA product. The growing-chain is then brought into contact with a polymerase in the presence of one or more nucleotide triphosphates under conditions permitting the polymerase to catalyze addition of one or more nucleotide triphosphates to the 3′ end of the growing-chain using the annealed oligonucleotide as a template. After polymerization has occurred, the annealed growing-chain and oligonucleotide are denatured so that the steps can be repeated until the NA product of desired length is synthesized.

The present invention relates to a method for enhancing uniformity of metal oxide coatings formed by Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) or ALD-type processes. Layers are formed using alternating pulses of metal halide and oxygen-containing precursors, preferably water, and purging when necessary. An introduction of modificator pulses following the pulses of the oxygen-containing precursor affects positively on layer uniformity, which commonly exhibits gradients, particularly in applications with closely arranged substrates. In particular, improvement in layer thickness uniformity is obtained. According to the invention, alcohols having one to three carbon atoms can be used as the modificator.

A method and apparatus are provided for measuring a parameter such as capillary pressure in porous media such as rock samples. The method comprises mounting a sample in a centrifuge such that different portions of the sample are spaced at different distances from the centrifuge axis, rotating the sample about the axis, measuring a first parameter in the different portions of the sample, and determining the value of a second parameter related to the force to which each portion is subjected due to rotation of the sample. In one embodiment, the first parameter is relative saturation of the sample as measured by MRI techniques, and the second parameter is capillary pressure.

a plurality of pixelated detectors wherein each pixelated detector provides a detector signal responsive to photons that are incident on it;

a plurality of processing circuits that receive said detector signals and provide processed signals responsive to said detector signals; and

at least one printed circuit board on which said processing circuits are mounted and having conductors thereon that carry said detector signals to said processing circuits;

wherein said processing circuits are mounted on said printed circuit board at locations remote from said detectors; and

wherein said plurality of pixelated detectors form a two-dimensional planar array.
