The invention relates to a spindle drive for an adjusting element (1) of a motor vehicle, wherein a drive unit (2) and a spindle / spindle nut transmission (3) for producing linear driving motions, which is arranged downstream of the drive unit (2) in regard to driving, are provided, wherein the spindle / spindle nut transmission (3) comprises a spindle (8) and a spindle nut (9) that meshes with the spindle, wherein the spindle drive comprises two drive segments (10, 11), which run inside each other in a telescoping manner during a motorized adjustment, wherein the spindle (8) is associated with the one drive segment (10) and the spindle nut (9) is associated with the other drive segment (11), wherein the two drive segments (10, 11) are coupled in a torque-transmitting manner in the sense of twist prevention. According to the invention during the motorized adjustment, the spindle nut (9) runs inside a guide tube (15) of the spindle-side drive segment (10) along the spindle axis (7) and is prevented from twisting with respect to guide tube (15), and that, as viewed in the cross-section, at least one formation (16) inside the guide tube (15) is in or can be brought into engagement with an associated counter formation (17) in the region of the spindle nut (9) in a torque-transmitting manner for the twist prevention and the two formations (16, 17) associated with each other interact in a wedge-like manner for this torque transmission in such a way that a radial force component is produced.
