The invention provides an elevator group management system which increases an acceleration running frequency of a variable speed elevator and an elevator group management method. In the elevator group management system, a control device has a destination floor recording device for recording a destination floor call on behalf of the destination floor desired by a user; and a control apparatus for distributing the destination floor call to any one of the multiple elevators according to the destination floor call recorded by the destination floor recording device. When the destination floor recording device records the new destination floor calls, the control device respectively virtually distributes the new destination floor calls to the multiple elevators, and calculates travel distances of all the travel intervals exist in the virtual distribution. According to the calculated travel distances of all the travel intervals, a distribution priority evaluation value on behalf of the distribution priority is set. According to the distribution priority evaluation value, the new destination floor calls are distributed to any one of the multiple of elevators.
