For example, a device for managing an electronic event ticket may include a processor configured to run an electronic ticket management application, a memory device configured to store data associated with the electronic ticket management application, an electronic display configured to display at least a portion of the data associated with the electronic ticket management application, and an input/output interface configured to receive an electronic ticket and the data associated with the electronic ticket for management by the electronic ticket management application. The electronic ticket management application may be configured to enable the electronic device to gain entry to an event and to obtain at least one other event-related benefit after the electronic ticket is received by the input/output interface.

A system and method for performing messaging between telephones in a data network telephone system. The message communications may be managed by a messaging application connected to the data network. The messaging application detects when a telephone is connected to another telephone and sends a messaging input screen to the first telephone. The messaging application may determine the availability of other users for messaging and may control messages communicated between the first telephone and the other users. The messages may be text or voice messages.

A system and method for managing a permit-based parking environment governed by a parking program. The permit-based parking environment includes a number of parking permits each including a unique RFID tag and tag number. One or more RFID readers are used to scan the vehicles parked in the parking environment to determine if a RFID tag is associated with the parked vehicle. The results of the scan along with information related to the parked vehicle are provided to a permit management system to determine if the vehicle is parked within the scope of privileges pre-defined for that vehicle, pursuant to the parking program governing the parking environment. A system, method and computer program product for efficient sharing of memory between first and second applications running under first and second operating systems on a shared hardware system. The hardware system runs a hypervisor that supports concurrent execution of the first and second operating systems, and further includes a region of shared memory managed on behalf of the first and second applications. Techniques are used to avoid preemption when the first application is accessing the shared memory region. In this way, the second application will not be unduly delayed when attempting to access the shared memory region due to delays stemming from the first application's access of the shared memory region. This is especially advantageous when the second application and operating system are adapted for real-time processing. Additional benefits can be obtained by taking steps to minimize memory access faults.

A dual-screen user device and methods for revealing a combination of desktops on single and multiple screens are disclosed. Selected desktops and/or running applications are displayed on dual screen displays. Desktops and applications can be shifted between screens by user gestures, and/or moved off of the screens and therefore hidden. Hidden desktops and screens can be re-displayed by yet other gestures. Other gestures rearrange the order of the applications and desktops in the window stack. One particular gesture drags a selected application or desktop appearing in the applications management window to a selected screen.
