The present invention relates to a query response device comprising: adapted to receive input from a user query; a memory (106) adapted to store one or more routing rules; one or more live agents configured to support interaction with one or more live agents a plurality of live agent engines (116); one or more virtual assistant engines (120) configured to support interaction with one or more virtual assistants instantiated by the artificial intelligence module (103); and coupled to the A live agent engine and a routing module (104) of said virtual assistant engine, the routing module (104) comprising a processing device configured to: based on at least a first user message from a first user related to a first user query and selecting a first one of the live agent engines or a first one of the virtual assistant engines based on the one or more routing rules; and selecting the one associated with the first user query One or more additional user messages are routed to the selected engine.
