Embodiment Construction
[0025] The present invention generally relates to systems and methods for generating intravascular images from two different types of data acquired from intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) devices. IVUS imaging is widely used in interventional cardiology as a diagnostic tool for evaluating diseased blood vessels (eg, arteries) in the human body, to determine the need for treatment, guide intervention, and / or assess its effectiveness. An IVUS device including one or more ultrasound transducers is introduced into the blood vessel and directed to the area being imaged. The transducer emits and then receives backscattered ultrasound energy in order to create an image of the vessel of interest. Ultrasonic waves are partially reflected by discontinuities arising from tissue structures (such as various layers of blood vessel walls), red blood cells, and other features of interest. Echoes from the reflected waves are received by the transducer and passed on to the IVUS imaging system. T...
