The method comprises the steps that a virtual machine recovery command is received, configuration information of a recovered virtual machine is obtained from a cloud sever, and a recovery virtual machine and a local storage unit corresponding to the recovery virtual machine are created according to the configuration information; a start command of the virtual machine is received, basic system data is obtained and downloaded from the cloud server, and the recovery virtual machine is started according to the basic system data; an IO request is received, whether data related to the IO request is stored in the local storage unit or not is determined, if not, the data related to the IO request is downloaded to the local storage unit from the cloud server, and the data requested by the IO request is returned.
