Since a pointer area has a higher haar response value with respect to a non-pointer area, the method conducts statistics on the distribution of the haar response values through a histogram, and takes the haar response value corresponding with a quantile which meets a preset requirement as a threshold value, selects a regional maximum point in the haar response graph; and through the straight line fitting method, the method takes the straight line with the maximum sum of haar response values as the pointer of the dial image of the oil gauge, finally based on reference information of the pointer and scale points marked on the dial image of the oil gauge, obtaining a scale value pointed by the pointer in the dial image of the oil gauge.
