Problems solved by technology

One way these integration requirements have been addressed is by providing a dedicated monitoring solution for a specific SCADA vendor; however, this limits the level of data consolidation to upper layers in the system stack and ties the implementation to a specific Technology Provider's Version

Abstract

Disclosed are a method and system for dynamically maintaining data structures. Provided are techniques for dynamically maintaining data structures driven by heterogeneous clients in a distributed data collection system. In response to determining that a client-specific data structure has been modified in a source coupled to each of a plurality of clients, a metadata specification is generated, at each of the plurality of clients, from data structure metadata that includes attributes of the client-specific data structure; and data driven structure definitions are generated, at each of the plurality of clients, from the metadata specification, wherein the data driven structure definitions from each of the plurality of clients are to be aggregated to form a common data model in a central server.

Description

Technical field [0001] The various embodiments of the present invention involve dynamically maintaining a data structure driven by heterogeneous clients in a distributed data collection system. Background technique [0002] There are challenges to the scalability of the data model of the distributed data acquisition system. The data model can be described as a conceptual representation of the data structure required by the system. The scalability of the data model is a characteristic of the data model, and defines the degree to which the logical design of the data model can include additional attributes into the existing data structure. A distributed data collection system can be described as a system specifically developed to measure, collect, and aggregate data of interest. Distributed data acquisition systems distribute their dedicated data acquisition and processing logic to different components, with the purpose of distributing the data processing load and providing data a...
