Abstract

The present invention relates to a safety device for portable power generation for a fuel cell vehicle and a method of operation thereof. The safety device includes a fuel cell that supplies electric power required to drive an electric motor of the fuel cell vehicle and a battery that serves as an auxiliary power source for the fuel cell. A bi-directional power converter regulates the input power and output power of the battery. A connection port is connected to a portable generator placed regardless of a position of the fuel cell vehicle, and a relay is connected to the connection port to adjust supply of electric power to the portable generator. When starting of the fuel cell vehicle is turned on, the fuel cell controller determines whether the vehicle state satisfies a portable power generation mode entry condition, and operates the relay to perform portable power generation based on the confirmation result.
