Abstract

The present invention provides a banknote identification method and system, and relates to the currency identification technology field. The method comprises: cutting out a number region map with a fixed size for covering the number character on an Iran currency; performing binarization processing of the number region map, and obtaining the binarization region map of the number region map; vertically scanning the binarization region map through a window with a preset size, and identifying the upper tangent line and the lower tangent line of the character in the binarization region map; identifying the column tangent line between the number characters in the binarization region map through the dual-template matching algorithm; and locating the position of each number character of the Iron currency according to the upper tangent line, the lower tangent line and the column tangent line. The banknote identification method and system find the line tangent line and the column tangent line through window scanning and only relate to the simple operation at scanning, so that the banknote identification method and system are accurate and rapid, greatly reduce the identification error rate and have high expansibility.
