An apparatus for generating a peripheral image of a vehicle according to the present invention comprises: a camera unit, located in a vehicle, for photographing the periphery, thereby generating a photographed image; a bird's eye view image generating unit for generating a bird's eye view image by transforming the photographed image into data on a ground coordinate system which is projected with the camera unit as a start point; a movement information extracting unit for extracting movement information of the vehicle on the basis of the wheel pulse of the left wheel and the right wheel of the vehicle that is generated through a wheel pulse sensor located in the vehicle; a movement area bird's eye view image generating unit for generating a movement area bird's eye view image, which is a bird's eye view regarding an area where the vehicle moves, by matching the previous bird's eye view image, generated by the bird's eye view image generating unit, to the movement information; and a synthesized bird's eye image generating unit for synthesizing a subsequent bird's eye view image which is photographed and generated after the previous bird's eye view image is generated with the movement area bird's eye view image.
