Embodiment Construction

[0044] The following description includes exemplary systems, methods, techniques, instruction sequences, and computer program products that embody techniques of the present disclosure. However, it is understood that the described embodiments may be practiced without these specific details. For example, although the examples relate to minimizing interference between a Power Line Communication (PLC) network and a Very High Bit Rate Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) network, embodiments are not so limited. In other embodiments, techniques described herein may be implemented to minimize interference between other suitable communication networks sharing at least a portion of their respective operating frequency bands. In other instances, well-known instruction instances, protocols, structures and techniques have not been shown in detail in order not to obscure the description.

Abstract

This application describes methods, systems, and devices for minimizing mutual interference between networks implementing different protocols. In one embodiment, a first network device of the first network may exchange coexistence information with a second network device of the second network based at least in part on Interference is used to determine whether to share resources or reduce transmit power. In one embodiment, both the first network device and the second network device may independently and iteratively reduce their respective transmit powers to minimize interference between interfering networks. The first network device may reduce its transmit power based on the interference of the second network device, and vice versa. In another embodiment, network devices with lower priority may minimize their transmit power to reduce interference with network devices with higher priority.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to US Application Serial No. 14 / 305,964, filed June 16, 2014. technical field [0003] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate generally to the field of communication networks, and more specifically, to minimizing interference between communication networks. Background technique [0004] Power line communication (PLC) networks and digital subscriber line (DSL) networks typically operate on overlapping sets of operating frequencies within the 2 to 88 MHz frequency band. PLC devices in a PLC network exchange communications via power lines. DSL devices in a DSL network exchange communications over telephone lines. Although PLC devices and DSL devices use different communication media for transmission, PLC transmissions may electromagnetically couple with DSL transmissions and vice versa. This can cause interference in PLC networks and DSL networks. Contents of the invention [0005] V...
