The backup method of the file system comprises the following steps: first acquiring a snapshot file list; acquiring all file names and abstract values in the snapshot file list; computing the file abstract value of each fil in the current file system; comparing the abstract values of the files with the same file name in the current file system and the snapshot file list; and copying the file with different abstract value comparison result in the current file system to a designated position. Furthermore, the invention further provides a file system restoration method based on the backup method, the designated file is acquired by use of the abstract value of the file in the snapshot file, and the file with the same name with the designated file in the current file system is replaced according to the acquired designated file. By use of the technical scheme provided by the embodiment of the invention, the backup and restoration efficiency of the file system can be improved.
