The method comprises the following steps: firstly, sorting monitoring terminals according to the similarity of data streams, merging the data streams for multiple times according to the sequence, and storing the sequence of the monitoring terminals participating in the merging very time; and then, screening out monitoring terminals having the highest contribution rate to the final data stream according to the obtained sequence of the monitoring terminals participating in the merging, and only merging the data reported by these monitoring terminals so as to obtain a complete data stream at last. Compared with the existing merging scheme, according to the method provided by the invention, the merging is carried out based on the similarity of the monitoring terminals, so the overlap ratio of data is reduced, the calculation pressure during the merging is reduced, only the data reported by the monitoring terminals having the highest contribution rate to the final data stream are merged at last, and not the monitoring terminals in the whole network report the data, thereby effectively reducing the data size of system network transmission and reducing the bandwidth requirements for the network transmission, and thus the data stream merging method and apparatus is applicable to the majority of the existing wireless local area network monitoring systems.
